Yamaha Piano Serial Numbers Beginning With B
Thanks for that, Paul. However: 1) This piano is in the UK, and the lists on that site are for the US market. 2) This list only shows pianos being made in Hangzhou since 2004 and this is a 1972 piano, according to its serial number. (Ant yet, did Yamaha make the U1 model in 1972?) Best regards, David. Start of Production.

I ordered through a supply house. When the cover arrived I took it to the college and proceeded to put it on the piano. To my amazement, it didn't fit. I called the manufacturer of the cover, who was amazed as I was, for they had indeed shipped the C5 cover. He said he would ship a second cover. It too did not fit! Wildfire Saison 4 Torrent Frozen.
There was no question the piano was a C5. It was unequivocally embossed on the plate. This time I was told to make a pattern and mail it to the manufacturer.
In the meantime I contacted Yamaha in California and was told the piano's serial number was not in their database and they would investigate. Two days later I was called back and told that it was a gray market piano made to be sold in Japan. The first two covers fit the other two C5s perfectly. Curiously, the 'E' C5 was somewhat larger than the ones made for the US market. Originally posted by J P: I believe the letter is an indication of the specific factory where that piano was made. I know this is how Kawai has done this in the past.
However I do not know what factory the 'E' before the serial number denotes. From the Yamaha US site: 'Yamaha Pianos produced for the U.S. Market have been manufactured in 4 locations: Hamamatsu, Japan Thomaston, Georgia South Haven, Michigan Jakarta, Indonesia As a result, there are four different serial number ranges for Yamaha pianos. If the serial number begins with a 'T', the piano was manufactured in Thomaston, Georgia. If your grand piano is a GH1G, GH1FP, GC1G, or GC1FP, your piano was manufactured in Thomaston, Georgia.
