Install Puppy Linux From Usb To Hdd

Good day to all. This is my first attempt at Linux, so if you reply you will be talking to someone with no knowledge of Linux at all. I chose puppy linux because from what I can tell from research it is supposed to be one of the simpler linux os. I have d/l the puppy linux 5.0.1 iso, and have burnt it to a cd. The computer I am working with is a emachines T5212 P4 w/XP with 'boot from removable device enabled in the bios'. Dell Optiplex Gx240 Drivers Free Download Windows Xp here.

The cd I burned works aok with the machine, all functions including internet. I am trying to install puppy from the cd to a new clean 4gb hp usb flash drive(known working), formatted in fat 32 and am using puppys universal installer. Vbulletin Download Manager Plugin Chrome.

It seems as their are no problems when working through the software to install(ie puppy throws up no red flags). When the install is done, puppy ejects the cd. Next, I run through the settings, when done, I let it save the settings, after that has finished, puppy shuts the machine off, like all is well. When I try to boot puppy with the flash drive in, all I get is a black screen with 'boot error' on it(note: their are linux files on the flash drive). I guess my question is why will the cd work, but when I put puppy from the cd onto the flash drive, and follow all directions puppy won`t work.
